Air Whales

Air whales are the largest creatures on S'mKiith. For that matter, they are the largest known animals in the Rim. These enormous biological dirigibles are little more than living gas bladders; they have no skeletal systems to speak of, relying instead on interior pressure and a web of tough, fibrous cartilage to hold their shape. Of course, holding a body together isn't the only dillemma involved with massive animals; the air whale relies on six independent circulatory systems to pumb blood through its skin.

Despite their impressive size, air whales are relatively fragile. Small punctures can be healed, but large wounds are disaterous. Air whales typically rely on altitude for protection, drifting lazily through the clouds of airborne plankton, but occasionally one of the Mountain People or Emwitabway will fling a rock through one and the whale will steadily lose altitude.

Grounded air whales never survive to heal their wounds. They can feed hundreds of scavengers for weeks.
