The empire has a lot of very valuable property. From security clearance codes to experimental superweapons, some very interesting things can be found at countless Imperial installations across the galaxy. And, of course, there are countless rogues who would love to get their hands on them. Because of this, security is big business, both for the Empire and for private corporations and individuals. The Empire, for the most part, is more than capable of providing its own security, but corporations must frequently hire professional security forces. The measures detailed in this document are frequently used by both groups, though the Empire may sometimes be slightly more brutal than small businesses.
I Automated Security:
A barrier can be anything from a simple fence to a reinforced durasteel wall with razor wire and automated blaster emplacements. Typically the first line of defense, the outer barrier is usually well guarded and arranged in such a way that any infiltrators would have to expose themselves to discovery (and blaster bolts) to even approach the installation. Where security is more desirable than subtlety, the barrier should be defended by reinforced obstacles to prevent attacking vehicles from reaching ramming speed. In places requiring security and subtlety, these advance barriers can be disguised as large sculptures or columns. The strength of a barrier depends on its material and construction, from the lightest wooden walls (1D to 4D character scale) to heavy metal/alloy fortifications (4D to 6D walker scale)
Many barriers are topped with razor wire (when cosmetic concerns are secondary), long strips of razor-sharp durasteel ribbon wrapped into coils and strung around the top of a wall. Accidental contact results in 3D (moving cautiously) to 5D (running full speed) damage. Razor wire can be broken with any cutting tool (Str: 2D), but tends to thrash about when cut (cutter must make a moderate dodge roll or sustain 3D damage). Razor wire typically costs 50 Credits for a fifty meter coil.
A more subtle (and grisly) alternative is monofilament wire, a super-thin wire strand with incredible cutting power. These strands are nearly invisible (very difficult search to detect) and offer consistantly fatal protection. Contact with the wire results in 6D (moving cautiously) to 9D (high speed) or more damage. Monofilament wire can be cut (Str: 2D), but will then whip toward its tethers, slicing everything in its path to ribbons. The cutter is not usually in danger from this recoil.
Picket blasters are stationary automated weapons aimed and fired by droid brains. they can be programmed to fire on specific individuals, any individual not carrying a security badge, or anything that moves. Due to their limited intelligence, picket blasters are often programmed to request clearance before firing on a target, but many kill on sight. Picket blasters come in all shapes and sizes, but most fall near the Atgar BI/a15 in terms of quality:
Scale: Character
Ammo: 100 (or connected to main power grid)
Cost: 5000
Body Str :2D
Range: 3-50/75100
Damage: 6d
Notes: Has blaster skill at 5D and search at 5D
Other models are designed at speeder-scale to fire on attcking vehicles.
Security drones are small, specialized droids designed to patrol territory, report security breaches, and sometimes to respond to breaches with force. Drones can allow an undermanned facility to monitor huge spaces; they also constitute a potent fast-response force, swarming to attach any intruders. ***mono wire***
