Handsome and cocky, Alonzo Solace is the typical "space jockey" . . . until he lands on G889. With a broken leg that leaves him phyically immobile and a psyche bruised by the crash that he feels responsible for, Alonzo becomes disconsolate. He becomes further distressed when he starts having unusual dreams with the Terrians, an indigenous species of G889 and apparently the highest lifeform. Though he helps Uly become well through these Terrian Dreams, Alonzo still harbors feelings of self-pity and a paralyzing fear of growing old. Nearly suicidal, the Terrians show him that "the ride of his life" is in the actual experience of living and that growing old is nothing to fear. Accepting that, and finding true love for the first time in his life, Alonzo begins his recovery. Though never understanding why he was chosen, he accepts the fact that he's a link between the Humans and the Terrians and thus begins a new phase in the life he's chosen to live.
