John Danziger also grew up on the stations. However, his was not the life of wealth and ease that so typified Devon Adair's life. He was a drone, one of thousands who carried the financial burden of their parent's, or grandparent's, passage up from Earth to the stations. Life is not easy for those in the quadrants and money is a constant worry. Fiercely independent, Danziger accepts many dangerous assignments knowing all too well that the more dangerous the assignment, the higher the pay and the sooner he can get out of the debt he owes. One such assignment costs him the life of the mother of his daughter, True. Unwilling to allow his daughter to inherit his debt, Danziger accepts the highly lucrative job on the Operations crew on the Eden Project advance ship. When the advance ship crashes on G889, Danziger's pragmatic personality acts as a counter-balance to the more altruistic Devon as they lead the remnants of Eden Advance to their new home thousands of kilometers away.
