The way I see it...

Posted by Deborah! Yay! on Friday, 18 June 1999, at 11:51 a.m., in response to Newbies., posted by Ryan Mooney on Saturday, 12 June 1999, at 11:54 p.m.

There are several categories on this board:

Brand Newbies are, well, brand new. Never been to the board before. Post saying "hi, I'm new" or pop out of nowhere and ask a question that we've answered a million times already.

Newbies have been around for maybe a few weeks (or even months, if they don't post much or annoy people). They don't get the inside jokes but often post a whole lot anyway.

Lurkers scare me. I wish they'd post. Lurkers that come out of hiding can skip Brand Newbie status, but are still branded as Newbies since, however long they've been around, no one else knows anything about them. Someone who posts once a month and then goes back into hiding is still a Lurker.

Regulars post at least a few posts a week, and have been doing so for at least several months.

Here's where it starts to get hard to define. But I'll try...

Quasi-oldbies have been regularly posting for quite a while, but oldbies can still remember when they showed up.

Oldbies fit somewhere in between Quasi-Oldbies and True Oldbies. Things get very ambiguous in this category... to reach this level, one must make some sort of impact on the board, and have been around for a pretty long time.

True Oldbies fit Ryan Mooney's definition. They've been here since the dawn of time, and still post. Wow.

Legends are people who, if they still posted regularly, would be True Oldbies. People like Flaming Wreck, who are fondly recollected by the board, but, for some reason or another, don't really post anymore. Of course, there are Legends that are remembered fondly and, well, not so fondly... but they're all Legends.

So that's my opinion. Keep in mind that I just made this up. I think I fit somewhere between Quasi-Oldbie and Oldbie. I've been here for more than a year and post regularly, but I'm not sure if I've really made an impact... oh well.

gosh... that took a while to write...
