Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 16:54:58 +0100 From: Allan MacLeod To: 'cb-music Subject: More on High Road to Linton I have found the following in a collection by Keith Norman MacDonald (Skye Collection compiler). "Bodachan a'Phinnt Leanna" to the air of the "High Road to Linton" is also very old. Though it has received a south country name it is essentially an old pipe tune.
Bodachan a' Phinnt Leanna, Phinnt Leanna, Phinnt Leanna, Bodachan a' Phinnt Leanna, Bithidh e air an daoraich Bodachan a hi air o Bodachan a hi air o Bodachan a hi air o Bithidh e air an daoraich Bodachan a hi air o Hi air o, hi air o Bodachan i ho hao Bi'dh e air an daoraich Bodach nach do chum Nollaig, Chum Nollaig, chum Nollaig, Bodach nach do chum Nollaig Domhnull dubh mac' Fhionnlaidh Bodach nach do dh'fhidir i Dh'fhidir i, do dh'fhidir i Bodach nach do dh'fhidir i Is idir nach do chum i! |
There is a play here on the words "fidir" to consider or think about, and "idir" the adverb And also:
Mur bhiodh mo shuilean, mo shuilean, mo shuilean Mur bhiodh mo shuilean, bhiodh duil agam ri gill'og; Mur bhiodh mo shuilean prabach, shuilean prabach, shuilean prabach Mur bhiodh mo shuilean prabach, gheibhinn spailpean a ghill'og |
You're welcome to add the above to your list if you like, George. The book is long out of copyright - published 1901. Anyway, what the heck. Let them sue! Allan
