Lantern Burn
© Stephen Sharrat

Will he see my lantern burn in this pitch black cove tonight,
Will he know my heart beats strong, a beacon of sweet light,
Can he see my frightened eyes, can he hear my trembling cries,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right.

He went to sea some time ago, and I yearn for his return,
With every storm that rocks this coast, I make the fire burn,
Can he see me through the mist, can he feel my gentle kiss,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right.

They say 'is ship, it ran aground and every hand was lost,
I'll walk these cliffs all winter long, 'til my heart is numb with frost,
I swore to him we'd never part, I couldn't save his drowning heart,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right,

Will he see my lantern burn in this pitch black cove tonight,
Will he know my heart beats strong, a beacon of sweet light,
Can he see my frightened eyes, can he hear my trembling cries,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right,
And it's only when he's near, will I be right.
