Fredrick Johannsen was the son of an American diplomat and his Korean cook. His father was assassinated before he knew he had a son. When he was seventeen, he took his father's name out of respect. His mother raised him, but he spent much of his time in the company of their neighbor, a retired sensei in snake style kung fu. Unfortunately, his questionable heritage, poor looks, and pale skin made him an outcast in the local school system, which just left him more time to study the ancient style. When he grew up, racism cut his career options short, especially without strong corporate contacts. He was too Korean to pass as an American or European, but too Caucasian to pass as Korean. With no exits, he sold his body to a Corp called FutureForm Inc. As such, he became a test subject for one of their new exotic packages. This meant that, under Korean law, he became their property (although they implied they controlled his mother and sensei as well). He was the only one of six to survive the unrefined process (the flexibility enhancement and facial reconstruction combined with the reflex boosters and ambidextrous enhancement were the intricate points). He became their model of the form. Later, he managed to get a six-month sabbatical to return to his sensei to clarify his style with his new body form. Needless to say, his marital art skills and enhanced structure always made a strong impression. Unfortunately, the exorbitant cost of the form has kept it regulated to the extreme fringes, even after the process became much safer. So, Fredrick actually spent most of his time as a bodyguard and part-time bouncer, rather than a spokesmodel.
He was in the USA on an exhibition tour when the collapse caught him by surprise. At the same time, he found out that his sensei and mother had died in a horrible apartment fire. He decided to use the chaos to escape from his employers. By the time things calmed down enough for FutureForm to mount a search to recapture their investment, they were in deep in red ink. Their offices had been raided, and their chief accountant had disappeared with 180 million in embezzled funds. The company went bankrupt within three months after the collapse. In order to prevent animosity with any faction of the ISA, the companies that bought the pieces of the defunct company rescinded all rights and claims to property within the ISA, including the rogue exotic. Naturally, he had to register with the ISA, but they let him keep his cyberwear, including the illegal aspects, since removing them was a dangerous, expensive process. He was one of the few to receive the special medical exception to the cyberwear ban. The medical exception has been closed since that time. Fredrick, with the new handle Viper, returned to a career as a bouncer and bodyguard. His imposing figure and quiet professionalism let him build a nice nest egg in short order. In his spare time, he became a sensei to some of the local children. While he was a bouncer at the Glass Castle Bar and Showroom, he became involved with a young woman working her way through law school, QT. She was a passionate defender of the oppressed, and their relationship gave her a prime target, the exotics. Eventually, their romance ended, but their friendship survived. Now, he has taken up her cause, and works as guard, secretary, and general gofer for the Exotic Legal Aid Center. He still works as a bouncer and bodyguard, but has cut back on his hours, to spend more time on his good works.
In person, he is incredibly intimidating. He is over seven feet at full height (although he rests at a more comfortable six and a half feet). Because of his reflective nature, he tends to sit quietly and avoid unnecessary chatter. When he does speak, no word is wasted. He has taught quite a few StreetFighters his style, but does not actively seek out students (however, he has never turned anyone away). Due to his incredible flexibility and tail, he tends to sit in positions that make other people squirm in pain. He is very loyal to QT, ELAC, his students, and his job, and does not take kindly to anyone who messes with them. All in all, he is a proper gentleman with a loyal heart.. and scales.
