ORACLES CHAOS THEORIST PREDICTING THE FUTURE
^^The original evolved stretched the limits of our scientific understanding, now some of these sports are just shattering what we thought was even possible. In basic maths you learn that if you have all the variables to a problem then you can work out answer. Of course as you advance you learn this isn't always true. Things like the uncertainty principle and chaos theory screw up you complex models of the universe. This is why the weather reports a still so out of whack and it always rains on your picnic. Its been a dream of some theorist to predict future events based on current measured variables. Of course you could never collect enough information and process it fast enough to prove them right. That was until the Oracle sport appeared.^^ ALT | Source: Dr Margaret Tuere, CDC [NSecA@FtGGMeade. R&D_DBioP..TC1 Destination: Lt Gen. Chris Lacolucci
General Lacolucci: [Summary : Oracle Sport - by Dr R. Daley.................
Our theories on all these 'redundant' sensory devices changed while doing an open cranial examination. The brain of the test subject was over laded with a hexite mesh that was woven in with the original brain tissue. We did not investigate fully at the first juncture as it would have required a dissection of the brain, but later investigation confirmed are theory that the brain had been rewired to work a speeds far in excess of our latest processing devices. The brain had become a miniature mainframe designed for one purpose, to process the information received from these 'redundant' sensory devices. So we had a number of input devices and a super-processor but as yet we could discover no useful output. These device couldn't be redundant as we first thought but after a number of lengthy interrogations and a long medical examination our subject had still provided no hints as to her hidden abilities. It was then that my assistant point out a number of coincidental events involving the subject. This made us try test a new theory as to the use the Oracle makes of all this sensory data. After a number of trials we believe this theory to be correct although, we cannot prove it conclusively without more test subjects. Anyway here is our theory. We believe the Oracle uses the information obtained via sensory inputs to calculate all the possible events likely to occur in the future. It then gives the sport some warning of the most probable events. We are as yet unclear as to how this works exactly, although the subject claimed she 'guessed' it was going to happen, or she had a 'hunch'. It seems the test subject had no conscious warning more just a 'gut feeling' something was about to happen. This is why we have named them Oracles. Oh yes the BuReloc troops probably won't be interested in all this scientific jargon they just want to know how to catch them. Well they're easy to spot since there eyes have a hexite coating making them silver. Then again with the fashion for wearing shades (even at night) and chrome cybereyes being popular it might not be that easy. That and these freaks can 'guess' your coming through the door before you lift the sledgehammer you might have more trouble than you expect.

Game Mechanic : The ability of an Oracle is know as Seer. The Oracle has improved sensory abilities and adds his level in Seer to any 'Get a Clue' tests for spotting objects, hearing noises, etc. The Oracle can also use Seer ability level to offset combat penalties for bad light and target movement. The hexite in his brain also improves his reaction time giving +1 Ref for initiative tests. The Oracles can also use his abilities to successfully predict the future an number of times in a game session/story (GM's choice) equal to their level in Seer divide by two (rounded up). They can only predict a limited distance into the future until the possibilities get to great, about three to five seconds or one combat round. The prediction works like this, after any event has been role played, the player can ask to have pre-warning and change his actions. He must roll Seer + Int against a target of 15. If successful the action moves back one round and then starts over all characters both the players and the GM's must act as they did last round except the Seer who automatically wins initiative and can change his planned action based on the for knowledge of what everyone else is doing. If the Oracle fails his roll he can't call the action back but he can try again on a different event later on. Since failing does count against the number of times he can successfully use this ability. For example: The Oracle and a Tinman are raiding a Corp Warehouse when a group of Corp Sec guards round a corner behind them. The guards open up on the intruders, killing the Oracle and seriously injuring the Tinman. The Oracle uses his ability to predict his own demise, game time goes back a round and the Oracle decides to pull the Tinman between some crates just as the Corp Sec guards round the corner. The pair avoid being detected and live to fight the machine. |
