Sleuths
Kid Investigators
"By the wear on this shoe, I would say he is five foot two, 140 pounds, and left handed"
"How could you miss it? It might as well have been a mile tall!"
Crime is a problem, and brawn is only part of the solution. You're the brains in the battle for justice. You've seen both the fictional detectives who dominate literature and the real detectives who desperately try to stem the tide of disorder and lawlessness. You know you're not detectives, you're just Sleuths.
What you look like
There are two basic styles within your yogang. The first group has uniforms closely resembling the militaristic garb of the Guardians. This is usually the habit of the brassers. The independents are much looser. Many of this group dress to emulate famous detectives of the past. This means everything from rumpled raincoats to deerstalker caps. Some of these individuals will even carry copies of antique weapons. Most of the independents, however, dress conservatively. This means jeans and T-shirts, or a suit if you want to appear professional.
Subculture
You’re realistic about the state of the world. Despite the shiny veneer, crime is running rampant through the streets and the boardrooms. You want the truth and will pursue it to the ends of the earth. Unfortunately, when corruption is the norm and doublespeak the official language, those who push for answers are always in someone's crosshairs. Your only defenses are your mind, your contacts, and your quest; heck, wars have been won with less.
There is a split within your yogang. The members of the first group, the brassers, are connected to particular Guardian groups. They act as their eyes, ears, and mop-up crews. When they want to know who to watch or where to go to prevent a
Goth slaying, they call on you. This half of the yogang has a firm hierarchy based on ability and seniority. The other half, the independents, has almost no structure at all. Reminiscent of the classic PI, you work apart from the Guardians. Some of you even work for real investigators.
Despite the differences, all of you trade information, equipment, and cases easily. This is all do to Agencies. The Agencies are groups of Sleuths who remain in close
contact, sometimes even working as partners or teams. It's just a system of connections and friendships, but the Agency is the foundation of the Sleuth yogang. If anyone needs to find a Sleuth, they can contact an Agency head. The most respected members in the city are given that title, and they maintain an index of contacts with other heads and individual Sleuths. Between all of the Agency heads, they know the name of every Sleuth in good standing. Often, they also know preferences and other pertinent information. Some have tried to use the Agency system to hunt down Sleuths, but the yogang always strikes back. They know how to find the transgressor and how to make them pay, with interest.
Belonging
Many of you started out in the Guardians but became more cerebral than physical. The mystery stories that surrounded you growing up inspired a few of you. Either way, you began to flex your mental muscles. Eventually, your interests and observations began to attract notice, and an Agency head decided to test you. They passed you some old cases, and you solved them easily. Then they took you for some real action. You had the mental agility to be a valuable resource, and they officially told the others of your good standing.
Removal from the Sleuths can be a very unpleasant prospect. If you fake evidence, frame an innocent, or otherwise disrupt justice, they will not be pleased. When someone has been accused the Agency holds a trial, and the three-person panel’s word is law. Yes, death sentences have been given, but removal is far more prevalent. Removal consists of letting every Agency head know of your loss of good standing. Without good standing, they no longer have the protection of the other members and their contacts, and every Sleuth has enemies.
Allies and Enemies
Your most positive yogang dealings come from the Guardians. You usually work as their unofficial detective branch. You also get quite a lot of help from the TinkerTots, who perform tests for you. While almost every other yogang dislikes you for catching them at less than shining moments, the GoldenKids and GlitterKids have a special distaste for your skills. You discover their demented games very frequently and don't care about their fame and money.
Slang
Watson: a friend
Agency: a group of Sleuths
Brasser: a Sleuth attached to a Guardian yogang
Going to the corner: looking for clues
Hidden forms: the Corps
TUS (The usual suspects): Megaviolents and Goths
Black cells: Goldenkids and Glitterkids
Yogang Skill: Bloodhound (Int)
While other juves see what's going on, you observe. All your training and practice has set your mind on constant search. When another juve sees a MegaViolent running away, they might notice what he was wearing; you on the other hand would remember exactly what he was wearing, that he was slightly limping on the left, and that he was wearing a shoulder holster. Essentially, when other juves use GetAClue you can use Bloodhound at one level easier.
