Stoners
The New Drug Culture
"Whooooah..."
"They asked us to tune in, so we tuned out."
"Come on, just one more.. come on, man..."

Ever since they were discovered, there have been individuals who have used chemicals to escape the pressure, boredom, and lows of everyday life. Not that it's very easy these days. The corps have tried to destroy the drug trade, but you found them. Many call it depressing. Most call it destructive. A few call it expanding. But it's your world, a Stoner world.

What you look like
There is very little consistency of appearance throughout the yogang. Some of you dress like Hippies from the sixties, or wear other drug related paraphernalia, but it's far from universal. In fact, there are only two things that identify a Stoner. First, there's the evidence of drug use. Most of you have learned to hide the needle tracks, pale skin, and other physical results of your addictions, but they're still there. Second, most of you use secret compartments to hide your stash. It's usually in a backpack or coat, but it's there to keep your drugs safe from a search.

Subculture
There is no overall philosophy that unifies you. All that unites you is the need. All of you have your favorite poison. All of you are addicted and will do whatever is necessary to get the next hit. It's powerful, it's demanding, it's all-encompassing.
The ISA is trying very hard to stamp out the illegal drug trade. Their primary concerns are money and control. The ISA has been making quite a lot of money with legal pharmaceuticals, and the illegal drug trade was siphoning off their profits. Obviously, the corps had to remove that barrier to their dominance. Furthermore, the types of drugs available were unacceptable. The public was getting mind altering and aggression boiling chemical broths, not the drowsy, complacency-rearing concoctions obedient citizens should be using. So, the ISA came down as hard as they could. The so-called War-On-Drugs of the late twentieth is nothing compared to the force applied today. Yet, they remain. With nanofactories cheapening production and incredible demand, the illegal drug labs have managed to hold on, barely.
Your addictions have made many things commonplace in Stoner culture. For example, every Stoner needs a private place to feed their habit. Almost anywhere will do, an abandoned factory, a rundown hostel, or a rich Stoner's bedroom. All the place needs is privacy and space for a few people. A Stoner needs others around in case of a bad trip or other unforeseen occurrence; a Stoner who shoots alone, dies alone. Another constant is cash, or rather the lack of it. Your habit takes money, and you're either looking for money, giving the money to the dealer, or looking for more money. Even wealthy Stoners aren't immune from empty wallets.
Without any constant call to arms, your yogang is tremendously loose. You tend to divide yourselves by your drug of choice. There are grass packs, Lace tables, and Speed circles. The most dangerous subgroups are the Dorph dens and the Booster bands. These groups aren't just addicted, they're pumped up and violent. Trading of members and stashes between the different groups is commonplace. All it takes is supply and demand, but reciprocity is expected. Within your groups, leadership isn't based on birth, skill, or intelligence; your leaders have contacts and know where to get the best stuff. If someone finds a better source, then they become the new leader; it's that simple. The leader helps supply drugs, arranges havens, acts as an arbitrator when necessary, and otherwise remains out of the way. All this makes a loose, easy system which is just what you want.

Belonging
Your story is typical. You were attracted to drugs by the excitement, the boost, or the release. Regardless of the reason, you became a user. Once drugs were the focus of your life, you were a Stoner. Anyone can become one; you don't discriminate between ages or income brackets. Since there is no real structure to the yogang, the only indication that you had arrived was the trust and familiarity of your goboys.
Leaving is simple as well. If you clean yourself up, they'll let you fade away with no hard feelings. Some will even try to help you keep clean. If you turn anyone to the dogs, however, it's not so simple. You'll be completely cut off from the yogang, no drugs, no friends, and no contacts. Usually, the cans and their bosses will have say, and when they talk, people die. Fading away is usually preferred.

Allies and Enemies
You don't have much in the way of allies. Many yogangs deal with you for your drugs and connections, but most would prefer to see you disappear. Your biggest customers are Goths, MegaViolents, MallBrats (who resell them), and Tribals. The only yogang that actively hunts you are the Guardians. They hate the chaos your lives spread. Similarly, the cops are a much bigger problem then corps, since you are more criminals than revolutionaries.

Slang
Stuffing: drugs
Dogs: cops
Puppies: Guardians
Dewy: under the influence
Cans: dealers

Yogang Skill: Pharmer (Int)
You know drugs, and your skill reflects as much. You use your Pharmer to find, use, identify, and price pharmaceuticals (recreational and otherwise). Also, since many of the drugs can have adverse effects, it can be used as a basic first aid skill. Finally, (although you hate this part) use has bred resistance, so you receive a +3 to resist any drug effect.

If you're a Stoner,
1) Tell me your name, age, and sex.
2) Describe yourself.
3) Pick 4 things you are carrying

  • 20 doses of a common drug
  • 10 additional doses of a rare drug (must have above first)
  • Backpack with secret compartment
  • Medkit with hypospray
  • Knife
  • 5 striptape binders (for bad trips)
