In "The Icarus Factor" Riker turns up another offer for the command of the ship. This time it's the Aries, a ship that at the time was patrolling the Vega-Omicron Sector.
Patrol Sector Vega-Omicron Sector: Patrol this distant sector of space.
SECURITY + Leadership + Anthropology + Stellar Cartography Your matching commanders may report to their ship here. 35 points, span 5
Again a rather arbitrary listing of affiliations, all of which have borders to patrol just like any other, so I chose three who hadn't appeared together on a mission before. As for skill requirements this is a bit of an interesting combination. The SECURITY and Leadership are givens for a patrol mission, gaurding the saftey of an entire sector would require a leader and a security officer. Stellar Cartography is a necessity because it is a vast sector and it will take some mapping to get around in it. The final requirement is a bit thematic and refers to the show. When Riker was offered the command one of the big perquisites was his first officer, a linguist named Flaherty who spoke over 40 languages. I figured that in learning all those languages the guy must have learned some history and that he must have an important role in the patrol mission or else Starfleet wouldn't have this great guy off in some far-off sector, so I put two and two together and added an Anthropology requirement. Then there's the ability to report matching commanders here, not one that would get used much but it might save you a Ready Room Door and it will help if you want to get a ship moving and don't want to wait for the MC at your outpost. Points are average for an odd mix of skills and the span is large because it is a far-away sector of space.
Thanks,
