Goin' Back To Miami!
An Unofficial Wayne Cochran Website
Possibly the first website devoted to the work of the flamboyant Floridian,
white soul singer and band leader extrordinaire: Wayne Cochran. It is my
objective to make information, discographies, and other pertinent information
about Wayne Cochran & the C.C. Riders available to the surfing public.
News
Tuesday, July 13, 1999:
Pearl Jam can thank devine intervention for their hit song "Last Kiss". Now
pastor, Wayne Cochran penned the song in 1956 and 1957, when he was
an R&B singer, known as the white James Brown. Cochran wrote the first
verse and chorus while living near a treacherous two lane highway where
people were always getting killed. The inspration for the rest of the song
came from 16 year old Jeanette Clark, the sister of Melinda Clark, and
best friend of Cochran's girlfriend, who died in a car wreck while on her
first date. The song was a top 10 hit in Georgia, until Texas based band, J.
Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers, covered it and made it a national hit in
1964. An ordained minister since 1981, Wayne Cochran owns 75 percent
of the songs rights and uses the royalties from the song to help his church.
