TimN's View on the Fremantle Dockers - Adelaide Game

--------------------------------------------------------------

This game was played on Monday night, which was a public holiday in WA, but nowhere else in Australia. Freo's last game was on the Saturday, so they had an eight day break leading up to this fixture. Prior to this game, Fremantle had never beaten Adelaide, and Adelaide had never managed a win at Subiaco. By the end of the night, one of these records would have to be broken.

I set the video to record the match, so I could write a decent report. After all, everything was looking promising, given that Shane Parker was in the team, and Peter Mann had been forced to pull out. As it turned out, though, I recorded an extremely interesting episode of IMT, and missed the final result. I caught a bit of "Talking Footy" after the game, and they showed me the highlights, talked about Shaun Rehn's knee, and were generally extremely wise, but didn't actually tell me the SCORE! So TimN learnt a valuable lesson about life - its bloody hard to find out the score of a game that was played in Perth between two interstate teams when you're living in Melbourne.

It turned out, though to be one of those scorelines that I didn't want to know about, with Adelaide having won by 33 points. Shane Parker was listed as one of the best, apparently for holding Modra to just one goal for the night. Unfortunately Robran was able to compenstae by booting five, and Vardy put on four, so the Crows weren't exactly short on scoring options.

Unfortunately it seems like the Dockers were. Bandy was good, scoring 4.1, but Daniel Parker was held scoreless, as was Waterhouse. Callaghan, Chisholm and Wills were all apparently good, but not good enough to give Freo a chance.

In summary: Adelaide started kicking with the breeze, and had a 3 goal lead by quarter time, despite Freo kicking the firt goal of the game. Adelaide extended their lead in the second quarter, against the breeze, and again with the breeze in the third. Fremantle rallied to an extent in the final quarter, getting to within 21 points at one stage before being completely over-run.

Final Score : Fremantle 10.12-72 lost to Adelaide 16.9-105
