Interestingly Channel 7 gave us live coverage of this game in Melbourne, even though the game between Brisbane and Norf was also on on the Saturday night. Of course the Fitzroy Bears vs the Canberra Shinboners was being played in Melbourne, so it would have had to have been on a delayed coverage, but even so there was a lot more potential for it to be an interesting game.
Freo were very much on top all through the third quarter, but they didn't do enough to put Collingwood away. It would come as no surprise to anyone who has been following Freo this year to hear that the Dockers were right in it at three-quarter time, but that they just got blown away in the final quarter.
Carr tagged Buckley all night, and as a result Buckley had very little impact on the game. Well, very little by Buckley's standards, at any rate. He kicked a goal in the first quarter, and another one in the final quarter, so he wasn't a complete waste of space.
Shane got the job marking Chris Tarrant. Tarrant got 5 goals, to back up the 6 that Matthew Lappin scored playing on Shane last week so it wasn't exatly a good night for Parker. It is unusual to see Parker being led to the ball the way that Tarrant was able to do it in this game. I think it was a new experience for Shane, and one that he didn't cope with terribly well, since he was reported for wrestling in the last quarter. Also in the last quarter he got sent from the field under the blood rule, and as he was departing the cameras caught him giving a spray to Tarrant. Which is not criticise him for verballing an opposition player - in fact I think he should do it more often than he does - but its not something that he does too often, so Tarrant must have really gotten under his skin.
Final Score : Fremantle 13.12-90 lost to Collingwood 19.5-119.
