I approached this game with some trepidation, as it was not at all clear how Fremantle were proposing to stop Carey, given that O'Reilly was out of the team. Add to that the prospect of McKernan being fit, and there was a big risk that the Dockers would be struggling to match the height of the North Melbourne team.
This game was a milestone for two of the Dockers players. It was Peter Mann's 100th game of AFL football, and Shane Parker's 50th. Not that the Parker milestone rated a mention on the TV coverage. The quote in email I received from the Dockers was Parker celebrated his half century with a typical effort. meaning that he did bugger all all night. On the other hand, his opponent, Craig Sholl also did bugger all, so you could probably argue that Shane did his job. Peter Mann, on the other hand, needs to do more than bugger all to be a worthwhile contributor, and unlike last week he didn't.
Surprisingly enough, Fremantle actually one this game by kicking straighter than their opponents. For the first time all year, it looked like getting rid of Winnie was a good plan, as he kicked a few on North's points. Even more of a shock was the fact that Fremantle came from behind to win, losing the lead in the final quarter, but then fighting back well to finish over the top of North.
Final Score : Fremantle 16.8- 104 defeated North Melbourne 12.15-87
