West Perth compete in the WAFL, the West Australian Football League, the finest Australian football league in the world. In 1995, West Perth finally broke through to win their first Premiership since 1975. On that proud day the final scoreline was:
West Perth 21.11 137 defeated Subiaco 12.9 81.
In 1998, they made the Grand Final again, but were beaten by East Fremantle. In 1999, West Perth were once again premiers, beating a South Fremantle team strengthened by the addition of the Fremantle Dockers' reserve players. The scoreline from the 1999 GrandFinal was:
West Perth 14.13 97 defeated South Fremantle 11.6 72.
Over the last few years, East Perth have dominated the competition, winning the last three premierships. West Perth remain strong contenders, however. They played in last year's Grand Final, losing to East Perth, and this year they are sitting on top of the ladder half way through the season.
West Perth have recently moved from their traditional home in inner-city Leederville to the outer suburbs of Joondalup. After a recent vote by members, its confirmed that West Perth are now permanently based at Joondalup, but continue to be known as the West Perth Football Club.
The official West Perth Football Club webpage can be found here. Its been improved a great deal recently, and is well worth a visit. For one thing, they update their page every week, rather than every year or two, like I do.
Westar Rules information. This has been a great site over the years, but it is maintained by one guy, Andrew Dare, who just does it as a hobby, so its not always right up to the minute. The archives and history of the WAFL are always spot on though. The people who actually get paid to promote Westar, the WAFC have finally cottoned on to this Internet thingy and now have a website.
Another site that has started supplying Westar information recently is The West Australian's The Game website.
In the AFL I follow the Fremantle Dockers, at least partly because they're not the Eagles. I also have some pages on my personal view of Fremantle.
