Not too long ago, I came across The Velveteen Rabbit story online. I think I first saw this story as a kid on tv.. and a few years later, read the book. (At least, I think I read the book. I remembered some pretty illustrations.)

It was one of those stories that touched a core with its simplicity about something that escapes most of our attempts to explain. I don't know how on earth I could forget this story, but I fell in love with it all over again after re-reading it. There was a similar story by Dean Koontz (with some more pretty illustrations--what children story would it be without them?! And yes, you read that right--Koontz wrote a bedtime story)

I won't tell you (much) how both stories go as I'd recommend them first. For the youth in all of us (despite how we sometimes forget, even adamantly *wink*, that we do have that little kid inside of us). And for those who do know the story, I'd urge that you go re-read it again.

Love is a beautiful thing. And in itself, it's usually pure. Perhaps that's why I am sometimes amazed at a child's love. There is so much innocence there, not very much can taint that love. Yet at the same time, there's so much vulnerability. It's a very humbling sight. When most of us love, we bring our worries, our backgrounds, our hurts, our hopes, our disappointments--our own realities: how we perceive. When most of us love, we no longer have that child-like innocence... and we're only all too aware of how vulnerable we are. And so, sometimes, in the midst of all of that, we muddle our vision of what's really there. Sometimes we even isolate ourselves on our own little island and we sort of forget... that loving means living.. and in living, we take the risks. But ..it's worth it, isn't it?

An afterthot: I was just informed that little Allie was named one of the top ten finalists in the Ghost Host contest. Whoohoo! Drop by and congratulate her, won't you?
