THE KNEELERS

kneeler sketchThe one hundred and fifteen kneelers that grace Saint Winifred's are all hand-embroidered, mostly by ladies of the village, to designs by Pamela Tickell. The project took thirteen years, from 1982 to 1995. The majority of those in the chancel and nave are memorials to individuals whose initials and dates are shown on the lower side. However, thirty-four in the nave have heraldic designs, related to all the crowned monarchs who have reigned during the life of the church. There is a book at the back of the church, containing the key to the memorial initials and heraldic designs.
