Pupil of his father, Leopold Mozart, and of Padre Martini. A child prodigy, made his first public performance as a keyboard player (at first on the harpsichord and later on the piano) in Munich and Vienna in 1762, sometimes with his sister Maria Anna. He traveled to Germany, France, England, and Italy, his first published compositions appearing during a stay in Paris in 1763. Konzertmeister to the Archbishop of Salzburg from 1769 and court organist there from 1779. Settled in Vienna in 1781, where he was chamber composer to the Emperor from 1788. Major Works Vocal works.
