OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Mitch and Maria have always been firm believers that students are to be
respected. We both seem to have a sympathetic ear for students in personal/academic
trouble, minority students, and the "older than average" student
or resident. This doesn't make us pushovers, however; both of us have pretty
high standards of academic and professional excellence.
With that in mind, we developed regular review sessions for our second year
medical students when we were both at MU, aka the "Mitch and Maria Show". It illustrated often
confusing, difficult concepts in pathology and somehow usually manages to
simplify them somewhat. This approach was successful enough to earn both
of us the American Medical Student Association's "Golden Apple"
award in 1994, so we guess it worked okay!
Of course, when Maria packed up and moved to Kirksville, Mitch decided "the show must go on; meanwhile, Maria carried some of her philosophy to KCOM.
We are always glad to share some of this
information with medical students, pathology residents, and even practicing
physicians via our Web Page. We both feel interaction is important; hence,
we provide e-mail access for specific questions. We won't always be the
speediest reply you might receive, but we WILL reply in response to specific
topics.
What we WON'T do...
- We won't give personal medical advice. Our licenses are to practice
medicine in Missouri; not in cyberspace. If you have a personal medical
problem, you need to see a doctor who can look at you, listen to you, and
examine you.
- We won't guarantee that our answers will be the "right" answer
to pass an exam. We do the best we can, but we can be fuzzy now and then
and it may not be the answer you need for a particular exam question. Besides,
we abhor students who say, "Just tell me what I need to know to pass
the test." We think they're very painful.
- We don't do sexual favors. Call a 900 number (perhaps 1-900-HOT-DOXX)
Think we're intellectual idiots? Go back to our Home
