Why would a scientist object to
a teacher-led prayer? Isn't a teacher-led Pledge
of Allegiance to the Flag just as coercive as a
prayer--by all secular measures?
Hence, if completely logical, the
federal courts might ban both
teacher-led prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.
But those who support the federal courts' bans on prayer
actually fear
the power they think prayer has--a power that
the federal courts
find will affect
the hearer with a risk far greater
than the risk from mere natural
political speech; natural speech does not contain the
supernatural element and will leave the hearer a choice.
