In Search of Truth

What is truth? Is there absolute truth?

The dictionary defines truth as conformity to fact and as reality, actuality. But what is actuality? To my mind the issue hinges on whether there exists a God who cares about humanity. If God does not exist then truth is a relative thing defined by the thinking of people. If a loving creator God does exist then truth is absolute defined by conformity to God's thinking.

The best evidence I can gather indicates that God does exist, therefore exists absolute truth.

What evidence do I have to indicate that God exists?
One of many indications to me is that God must have created life. I believe that if anyone clears his/her mind of preconceptions and considers how life could possible arise, they would conclude that it was far more likely to have been created then to have arisen apart from divine guidance. The scientific hypothesis that a series of chance chemical reactions occurred over a long time span to "accidentally" form the first life forms is extremely improbable to me.

Scientists have highly developed techniques for analyzing life forms to understand how they are made. We also have highly advanced synthetic techniques to build biologic molecules. You might think that it would be a relatively simple thing to analyze a life form, see how it is made, then go into the lab and recreate it with simple organic chemicals. It isn't. We don't know enough to do this. I simply cannot believe that a series of random chemical reactions can create life when the collective knowledge of all the scientists on the planet is not enough to accomplish the relatively simpler task of recreating life.

Some people admit that the spontaneous generation of life is unlikely but that a very long time span compensates for the improbability. I don't buy it. It would be far easier for a room full of monkeys to produce a perfectly typed manuscript of Hamlet with no understanding of what they are doing. Most of us can accept that this would never happen no matter how long we waited. The monkeys would more likely break the typewriters on the first day!

A further indication that God exists:

Our world is a little too perfect to have happened by accident.

Rom 1:20 (NIV) "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."
