Each year I and my three brothers try to take a single moose
(some years have not been successful, but that's ok!) When we
do, the meat is shared equally between our four families.
Usually we butcher for roasts and ground meat cut with a little
beef fat (Moose is very lean, with almost no fat.)
We try to take all our moose at close range for quick and
effective kills. This moose was taken with a .308 Winchester at 37 paces (about 35 yards).
We call our moose, a task that can take up to 12 or 14 hours. This bull came to us
at 12:05 p.m. a little over 5 hours after we began calling. We are proud to say that the longest
shot we have ever taken was 160 paces (150 yards). The closest was about 15 yards.
