Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony has been providing performance experiences for students for over 50 years -- and they are more than mere opportunities, they are true experiences.
Opera in the Ozarks is one of several annual summer musical events offered at Inspiration Point, or "the Point," as it has come to be affectionately called by its students and staff, alumni and patrons.
Students participating in Opera in the Ozarks begin their summer by auditioning for the artistic staff and then are cast in the most appropriate role, or roles, for their voice type and ability. Expect to be challenged!
For several weeks there are musical rehearsals, stagings, costume fittings, run-throughs with the orchestra, then dress rehearsals complete with orchestra, lights, sets, costumes.
Suddenly, it's opening night -- and almost every night is opening night, as each night's cast may be a little different. Opera in the Ozarks takes to the stage to transport its audience to the comic intrique of Cinderella's ball -- to the savage and fatal passion of Italy -- to the terror of the French revolution.
The audiences come from all over the United States, many of them loyal long-time patrons. Though the theater is small, the intimate setting offers an interaction between stage and audience not to be rivaled by the greatest opera houses.
