Japanese Sources

If you speak Japanese, check out the Japanese Text Initiative which is trying to get Japanese works on the Web. Eventually they hope to have English translations, too, but these didn't appear up yet.

Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters)

This is an 8th Century Japanese history, told by the storyteller Heida no Arei and written down by Oo no Yasumaro

Konjaku Monogatari Shu

trans. "Tales of Times Now Past" this was written around 1100. The above link is in Japanese.

Heike Monogatari

trans. "The Tale of the Heike" This is a tale of the fall of the Heike. The above link takes you to an excerpt from Helen Craig McCullough's translation The Tale of the Heike

Uji shui monogatari

trans. "A Later Collection of Uji Tales" this is a collection of tales recorded in the early 13th Century. The link takes you to an essay which includes several stories from the collection. Those who speak Japanese can find the complete collection here

Taiheiki

trans. "Record of Great Peace" written around 1300, this is a war romance story. I could find not complete translation online, but the above link takes you to an excerpt from Helen Craig McCullough's 1959 translation The Taiheiki: A Chronicle of Medieval Japan

There are many more Japanese works, but they do not appear to have been translated into English on the Web. Japanese Tales by Royall Tyler is an anthology of English translations from these medieval works. It also contains an extensive list of sources at the back.

Chinese Sources

Hsi Yu Chi

trans. "The Journey to the West." This is a Chinese epic tale about the trickster Monkey. It's a rollicking ride full of many stand-alone tales. I couldn't find English translations on the 'Net, so the link takes you to a site which includes an outline of the tale and an annotated list of English-language translations.
