Greece has many rugged mountains and the bays and inlets of the seas divided Greece into many small isolated regions. The people who settled in these regions developed very closed communities. This began neighboring communities to be harsh enemies. Numerous times war broke out between these communities.

The Aegean Sea connected the people who became well known as the Greeks. There is no area in the mainland that is greater than forty miles from the Aegean Sea. The Aegean Sea became their link to other people, ideas, countries, and products. Because of their geography many civilizations were full of farms and farmers. The three main crops they would grow was grapes, grain, and olives.
