How The Program Works

The Independent Study program is an educational alternative designed for

families who prefer a home setting to the traditional classroom

environment.   The program allows for flexibility in educational approaches,

allowing students to learn at their own pace while giving the opportunity to

re-teach skills and/or to excel in areas of special interest .

This supports the truth of  "developing the whole child".  We recognize

that academic success is built on a foundation of self-esteem, trust and

security, self-motivation and initiative, as well as natural curiosity.

It also allows for each child to be treated as a unique person,

with individual needs, goals and interests.  Therefore, a variety of

approaches and strategies may be employed to reach educational

goals.

Goals are set to achieve a high level of competency in basic skills,

while challenging each student to excel in areas of special interest.

Students are encouraged to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will

foster a love of  learning, as well as an ability to understand and interact

with the world around them. The goals also incorporate, in some cases,  time

needed away from the classroom envrionment, to perform self-evaluation

and soul searching.
