Notes of Lord Coleridge after the publication of The Story of a Devonshire House, Bernard Lord Coleridge wrote;
"Note To shew how difficult it is to arrive a accuracy in dates, the death of John Coleridge is ascribed to three different dates on authourity[:]
(1) In a letter from Mrs. Lewis to Capt: Archdeacon [No. 31] dated from Tillicherry Sept 26, 1787, endorsed in letter No. 38 [No. 40] she speaks of John Coleridge having died on April 7, 1787
(2) In Letter No. 16 (No. 38) dated Nov: 1, 1788 Francis Coleridge gives the date as May 1786
(3) The record of the India Office give the date as Dec: 1787
I should prefer Arpil 7, 1787"
