Megan's Rotary Group Study Exchange
India, 1999
These are photos of Megan's Rotary Club Group Study Exchange to India in January, 1999. Rotary International sponsors these trips, which are open to young professionals who are not members of Rotary. The trips, usually 4-6 weeks in duration, enable participants to see Rotary projects in other countries, and anyone can apply to participate through their local Rotary club. Megan found it to be a valuable experience and a good way to see a developing country for the first time.
The colors of this page, saffron, green and white, are the colors of the Indian flag, which also features the Chakra pictured above.
At left, Megan and Rebecca Brune in the home of one of their hosts. As you can see by their outfits, they are both feeling a little "sari" for themselves.
At right, what is a visit to India without seeing the Taj Mahal?
At left, the Rotary Group's trip was touched by some tragedy. In this picture, the second man in the back row is Australian missionary Graham Staines with his blond haired little boy. He had given much of his time to the Rotary Group. His family made them at home, and he showed them his work with Indians afflicted with leprosy. Some days after this photo was taken, he and his two sons were murdered by radical, nationalist Hindus apparently angry over Christian conversions. His wife and daughter have continued their work in India.
At right, Megan knows how to draw a crowd, as can be seen in this photo.
