My theory of food

My theory of food is that there are four basic food groups, and you should eat something from each of them every day. The four groups are:

  • bread
  • leg of lamb
  • ice cream
  • chocolate.

Notice that I have left the most important one until last. Something from this last basic food group should be eaten not just every day, but with every meal. This is most important for proper digestion. In fact, chocolate consumption is so critical to one's diet that it has its own rules, the Rules of Chocolate.

To give you an idea about how much I like chocolate, here is a picture of 3 of my giant Toblerones, sitting on the couch. Not couch potatoes, but couch chocolate bars! Each of them weighs 4.5kg. Yes, 4.5 kg, the largest regularly produced chocolate bar in the world. Each one is 75cm long and a 12.5cm equilateral triangle in cross-section. Admittedly, it takes me about a year to get through one, because I don't use it for everyday chocolate, just special occasions. So far, friends, family and I have polished off six of these. To learn more about this special food, try the toblerone web site.

I don't know whether this makes it better or worse, but when the picture was taken the outside two were empty, and the middle one half eaten. And the other three empty boxes were elsewhere.

Now to the more serious stuff, my favourite recipes. These favourites are the only recipes I use on a regular basis, so I thought I would put them here. Mostly I just throw a few things together to see how they will turn out. They say the self-taught have the worst teacher!

The recipes are divided into 2 pages, chocolate and everything else. Chocolate really is so important its recipes need a separate page.

The recipes are from my Mum, Annie (an American friend of mine - hence the American-ness of the recipe!), Lois (a friend of my Mum's, Shirl (my Mum's sister) and Sarah (another friend). One comes from a TV chef! Happy cooking.

And now, as a special treat, I have added my new marshmallow recipe!
