        Goodnight Saigon (Billy Joel)

F Dm Bb G
          Dm Dm7 C
We met as soul mates on Parris Island,
           Dm Dm7 C
we left as inmates from an asylum.
            Em Am Em Am
And we were sharp, as sharp as knives
            Dm Dm/C G C G
and we were so gung ho to lay down our lives.

           Dm Dm7 C
We came in spastic like tameless horses,
           Dm Dm7 C
we left in plastic as numbered corpses.
               Em Am Em Am
And we learned fast to travel light,
              Dm C Bb G Dm G
our arms were heavy but our bellies were tight.

          Dm Dm7 C
We had no home front, we had no soft soap.
             Dm Dm7 C
They sent us Playboy, they gave us Bob Hope.
          Em Am Em Am
We dug in deep and shot on sight
              Dm F G C G
and prayed to Jesus Christ with all of our might.

          Dm Dm7 C
We had no cameras to shoot the landscape
              Dm Dm7 C
we passed the hash pipe and played our Doors tapes.
           Em Am Em Am
And it was dark, so dark at night
            Dm Dm/C
and we held on to each other, like brother to brother,
   Bb F6/A G
we promised our mothers we'd write.

             F Bb C C7
And we would all go down together,
             F Bb C C7
we said we'd all go down together,
              F Bb G F Dm C
yes, we would all go down together.

         Dm Dm7 C
Remember Charlie, remember Baker,
                Dm Dm7 C
they left their childhood on every acre.
            Em Am Em Am
And who was wrong? And who was right?
          Dm C Bb G
It didn't matter in the thick of the fight.

Am Em C Dm E Dm Dm7 E
We held the day in the palm of our hand.
Am Em C Dm E Dm E+
They ruled the night and the night seemed to last
E C E Dm Dm7 C
as long as six weeks on Parris Island.
            Dm Dm7 C
We held the coastline, they held the highlands,
              Em Am Em Am
and they were sharp, as sharp as knives,
               Dm Dm/C
they heard the hum of motors, they counted the rotors
    Bb F6/A G
and waited for us to arrive.

             F Bb C C7
And we would all go down together,
             F Bb C C7
we said we'd all go down together,
              F Bb G F Dm Bb
yes, we would all go down together.

Hand In My Pocket -- Alanis Morissette

     A Asus2 Asus4 Asus2
I'm broke but I'm happy, I'm sore but I'm kind
     A Asus2 A
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
     A Asus2 Asus4 Asus2
I'm high but I'm grounded, I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
     A Asus2 A
I'm lost but I'm hopeful, baby

    Asus2 G6 D
And what it all comes down to
                              Asus2 A
Is that everything's gonna be fine, fine, fine
            G6
Cause I got one hand in my pocket
         D A
And the other one is givin' a high five

I feel drunk but I'm sober, I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm dyin' but I'm workin', yeah
I care but I'm restless, I'm here but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry, baby

And what it all comes down to
Is that ev'rything's gonna be quite alright
Cause I got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flickin' a cigarette

(instr.)

And what it all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
Cause I got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is givin' a peace sign

I'm free but I'm focused, I'm green but I'm wise
I'm hard but I'm friendly, baby
I'm sad but I'm laughin', I'm brave but I'm chickenshit
I'm sick but I'm pretty, baby

And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
Well I got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playin' a piano

And what it all comes down to, my friend, yeah
Is that everything is just fine, fine, fine
Cause I got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab

Enjoy!

Some say [C]love, it is a [G7]river, that [F]drowns the [G]tender [C]reed
Some say [C]love, it is a ra[G7]zor, that [F]leads your [G]soul to [C]bleed
Some say [Cmaj7]love it is a [F]hunger, and endless aching [G7]need
I say [C]love it is a [G]flower and [F]you its only [C]seed

It's the [C]heart afraid of [G7]breaking that [F]never [G]learns to [C]dance
It's the [C]dream afraid of [G7]waking that [F]never [G]takes a [C]chance
It's the [Em]one, who won't be [Am7]taken who [F]cannot seem to [G]give
And the [C]soul afraid of [G]dying that [F]never [G]learns to [C]live

When the [C]night has been too [G7]lonely and the [F]road has [G]been too [C]long
And you [C]find that love is [G7]only for the [F]lucky [G]and the [C]strong
Just re[Em]member in the [Am7]winter for 'n[F]eath the bitter [G]snow

Me and My Uncle
John Phillips

          C Am
Me and my uncle went ridin' down
              C Am
To South Colorado, west Texas bound
           C Am
We stopped over in Santa Fe,
C D
that day on the pony, just about half way
        Am E Am
Hey and you know it was the hottest part of the day

I took the horses up to the stall,
Went to the barroom, ordered drinks for all
Three days in saddle, you know my body hurt.
It being Summer, I took off my shirt
And I tried to wash off some of that dusty dirt.

West Texas cowboys, they was all around,
Wheat liquor and money, they loaded down.
So soon after payday, no one seemed ashamed.
You know my uncle, he starts playin' the game.
(Hey!) a hollow Jack and the winner take the hand.

My uncle starts winning: the cowboys got sore.
One of them called him, and then two more.
Accused him of cheating. Oh, no! it couldn't be!
I know my uncle, he's as honest as me.
And I'm as honest as a Denver man can be.

One of them cowboys, he starts to draw.
And I shot him down, Lord. He never saw.
Shot me another, right then he hit the floor.
In the confusion, my uncle grabbed the gold,
And we hightailed it down to Mexico

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold.
Love my uncle, God rest his soul.
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know.
Taught me so well (that) I grabbed that gold
And I left his dead ass there by the side of the road

(played in standard tuning)

C7sus2 B7 E
        I'm called a cow
C7sus2 B7 E
I'm not about, to blow it now
C7sus2 B7 E
        for all the cows
C7sus2 B7 E
        for all the cows

it's funny how
money allows all to browse
and be endowed
this wish is true
it falls into pieces new
the cow is you
the cow is you

  G5 B5
my kind has all run out
  G5 B5
        as if kinds could blend
  G5 B5
        some time if time allows,
        A5 C5 A5 C5 A5 C5
everything worn in, everything worn in, everything worn in
                     E5
        like it's a friend

I said you're all
a painted doll, and it caused
the walls to fall
how far is he?
impatiently; that's as far
as far can be
as far can be

I'm called a cow... for all the cows
it's funny how... and be endowed, and be endowed

my kind has all run out... like it's a friend.

Lived nine to five and he worked his fingers to the bone.

Just barely out of school, came from the edge of town.

Verse 2 (play with intro)
=======

C#m B C#m B
Tequila in his heartbeat, his veins burned gasoline.

It kept his motor running, but it never kept him clean.

They said he loved adventure. Ricky's the wild one.

He married trouble, had a courtship with a gun.

A5 F#5
Bang, bang shoot'em up. The party never ends.

     Once I was a soldier

Verse:
And though you have forgotten
all of our rubbish dreams
I find myself searching
through the ashes of our ruins
For the days when we smiled
and the hours that ran wild
With the magic of our eyes
and the silence of our words

Chorus:
|Am | | | |F | |G |
But someti-----------mes I wonder just for awhile
|Am | | | |G | |Am | | |
    Will you eve-----------r remember m--------e
|G | | | |Am | |Am

End.

This song is from the album Goodbye and Hello and there's an acoustic
version on the double live album Dream Letter.
The song has a 3/4-beat and a "|" represents a measure mark. Just
strum the acoustic and let your voice sing like Tim's and it will
sound like....?! You could try to incorporate the harmonica solo in
your guitar playing or maybe whistle that part if you can't play
the harmonica (I can't).

Corrections to the transcription welcomed.
