Lost
This is one I wrote in 1996. At first the meaning behind it escaped me. I had no idea why I wrote it. Then I reread "Waiting", and saw the correlation. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, the one we love and try to hold up never sees us...and so loses themselves. This poem shows that tragic reality.
Lost
She looks up, sees pain,
The unrelenting skies mock her.
She bleeds, wounds cut deep,
Her despair is enough to stop her.
Potentials unseen.
A silent hand holds her up,
She sees it not, she loves the pain.
She embraces the darkness known to her,
She doesn't know he can end the pain.
Love undiscovered.
Unknowing, she turns him away,
His outstretched arms desire to hold her.
She cannot see the love he has,
She runs to the darkness that wants to choke her.
Death clouds over, seeking her,
Her eyes are still blind to the love of the one.
He grasps, he pleads, he cries,
She flees his love. Death has won.
His heart bleeds.
He has lost her.
Death.
No more.
