Welcome!

Welcome to my spot on the net. As this page develops I will be adding links to various sites of interest, pictures and some bits and pieces of a few of my writings. Check back every now and then to see what's new!

My name is Adam Walker and I have recently finished a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Dallas Baptist University. After I finished my degree, I left my position as the International Admissions Coordinator at another college and took a job teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in Kaohsiung Taiwan. This is the fulfilment of a six-year dream. I love both teaching and learning languages. This will give me the perfect opportunity to do both. Right now I am teaching 25 classes of jr. high and high school students each week and I'm learning Mandaring Chinese, Taiwanese Chinese and Taiwanese Sign Language.

I love languages. They are the most facinating behavior in which human beings engage. I have decided that I should bring my favorite language related links together in one easy to access spot. Click here to see what I have collected from the net.

I participate in a listserve for people who invent languages as a hobby. It may sound strange, but take a few minutes to think about some of the other hobbies that people have! To find out more about this you might start with the Conlang FAQ.

A couple of years ago I conducted a pilot study comparing two radically different second language instruction techniques. If you'd like to see my results click here. In this study I used one of my constructed languages.

Another of my passions is Sci-Fi. I have written one short story which I think is good enough that I am trying to get it published. (This story became the recipient of my very first rejection letter! To date, I have not worked up the courage to re-submit the piece.) I have several more in the works. I am also working on a novel that isn't really going anywhere as yet, but I'm having a lot of fun creating the languages and cultures of the alien races in my Commonwealth. If you'd like to have a look at some of my languages try here.

If you'd like to learn more about the Chinese languages you might start here.

My two brothers are on the net now! Click here to see my younger brother's page. Click here to see my youngest brother's page.

Wanna see my dog? He's part Labrador and part . . . well, dog of some sort. But he is the smartest dog to ever live. And the cutest, too, for that matter. In Memoriam Sadly, Wolf passed away in mid August 2000, just three weeks after I moved to Taiwan. He will be missed.

The only other club, society, whatever, I belong to is the North Texas chapter of American Mensa. Mensa is an international high IQ society. Last summer I used a few days of my vacation time and went to the 1999 Annual Gathering in Long Beach California. I had an absolute blast! I got to meet three famous authors, learn to swing dance, have fun (?!) with a mathmagician, watch the fireworks over the ocean and spend some really late nights in the game room.

Since I had such a blast last year, I returned for the 2000 Annual Gathering in Philidelphia. It was another highly enjoyable experience. And the Fourth of July in Philadelphia wasn't shabby either! Highlights of this year's AG included learning a few Renaisance dances and a talk on educating the deaf-blind.

I manage a mailing list for ENFP's called enfp-haven. If you are an ENFP or have a special ENFP in your life you might want to check this list out. (Don't know what I'm talking about? Check here for more information!)

If you would like to have a look at some of the poetry I have written you should check out my poetry page! Check out the new Klingon hayqu' (or haiku, if you prefer the Japanese spelling ;-)

I have been working on finding my roots for several years click here to see my genealogy page!

I'm a bibliophile! Yes I admit it openly! I'm adicted to books! Click here for a list of the books I read in 2000. Coming soon . . . my 2001 reading list.
