French Newspapers

• Le Monde. Great source for in-depth articles on politics, economics, and social trends happening around the world. In French.

• Le Monde Diplomatique. This monthly publication of Le Monde has an excellent archive where you can search topic by date, by country, and by topic. Very good for research. In French.

• Le Figaro. I have included the Figaro homepage with the hope that they will start putting more news in it. For now, we will have to wait. Otherwise, it is a good national French paper with a heavy content in national economic issues. In French.

• L'Humanité. The newspaper with leftist leanings, but a rich source of interesting articles, and the possibility of searching their archives in the last few years for free. Well worth it. In French.

• France-Ouest. A regional newspaper centered in Nantes. In French.

• France Sudouest. Another regional paper covering events in the Bordeaux area. In French.

• La Voix du Nord. This paper covers events in northern France and parts of Belgium. In French.

• Nice Matin. Come to Nice and Cannes and learn about events in the French Mediterranean area. In French.

  French Television Stations

• A list of French television stations. First, try France's number one station (which covered LinguaFest' 1997) TF1, France 2, France 3, Canal Plus, ARTE, , TSR. In French.

  French Magazines

• L'Express. A very good French news magazine with many worthwhile articles on current events. In French.

• Paris Match. A popular French magazine with many photos and short articles. You can also subscribe to the paper version outside of France. In the USA it costs about $150 a year. In French.

• Elle. A women's magazine with a tastefully done electronic version. Fashion, cusuine, and numerous women's issues. In French.

• Expansion. A French magazine which focuses on business and money topics. In French.

• Santé Magazine. This French magazine deals with health topics. It is quite popular in France, but so far the electronic version leaves a bit to be desired. Let's hope they start putting more in the net version. In French.

• La Recherche. This French magazine focuses on popular scientific issues. In French.

  French Music

• La Marseillaise. Here are the words to the French national anthem. This is the background music that you hear to our French Page if you have a sound card installed and turned on in your system. All seven couplets and the refrain are included. In French.

• Edith Piaf. The most comprehensive site for the great French singer, Edith Piaf. Treat yourself to a complete listing of her songs and lyrics over a thirty year period. Unfortunately, no musical scores or background music are provided possibly because of ambiguous copyright laws. You will, however, be able to peruse a 16-page biography, and an ample supply of photos that span Piaf's career. In French and in English.

  French Transportation

• Look at the current French trains, the SNCF. Find all about the train schedules, the prices of tickets, and other useful information about the TGV and other trains in the French system. In French and in English.

• Going to Paris? the Paris Bus System, RATP. Prices, ticket plans, getting from the airports to the city center, even free bus rides to various art and other expositions. In French, and in English.

  French Cuisine

• French Cooking. La Bonne Cuisine de A a Z. Excellent source with hundreds of recipes. In French

• Hungry for something different? French Cuisine. A nice review of French cooking with some recipes. Enjoy. I will be putting more French cuisine information on the net shortly. In English.

• Hungry for something else? French Cuisine. Thirty or so more French recipes. Bon appetit! For French language teachers, you can incorporate this site into your lessons. In French.

• Quick, a French Fast Food Chain. Look at the menu, prices, and tasty pictures of the French version of McDonalds.

  French Art and Museums

• Need samples of French Art and biographies of French Artists? Web Museum in Paris. I strongly recommend that you visit the site of Nicolas Pioch, a Parisien, who has put together what is possibly the largest collection of French (and other art) in the world. Yes, he has beaten the Louvre hands down on the way to the internet. After visiting a few French painters, don't forget to look at the other works he has on the net. This man is a genius! And he did everything in his spare time! In English.

• Visit the Louvre. Here is the official site of one of the world's great museums. In French, in English, or in Spanish.

• French Army Museum In French.

• French Museum of Advertising In French.

• Natural History Museum of France In French.

  French Literature

• French Literature on the Web. Not only can you get the original texts of authors like Flaubert, Zola, Verne, and Voltaire, you can also have a word frequency list for the works. If you are a teacher, you can use these lists to help prepare examples for your lessons. In French.

• Songs, Poems, and Rhymes for Kids. Hundreds of texts, and many songs for kids. This site is a great source for teachers of French in the elementary school (and even older). In French.

  French Monuments

• The Eiffel Tower. Welcome to the official site. Not much information yet, but we expect the French to take a bit more pride in their national monument, and add a bit more to their web site. In French and English.

• The Elysee In French.

  French Towns

• Town of Chinon. Come visit the town where I grew up, and where my parents now live. It is known as one of the Medieval Cities of Europe. My parents live behind the Chateau of Chinon that you see featured in the picture. In French.

• Town of Richelieu. Richelieu is another famous French town about 15 miles from where I lived in France. The internet page, by the way, was written by the husband of one of Dennis' students at the University Francois Rabelais. In French, English, Spanish, and German.

• Birthplace of Rabelais. Visit the house where Rabelais, the author of Gargantua, was born. The house is about a 15 minute drive from where my parent's live. In French.

  French Government

• The Prime Minister of France. You can now visit the homepage of the French prime minister. Come keep in tune with the political trends in France. The Who's Who of the current French administration. In French, English, German, and Spanish.

• L'Assemble Generale. Read about the French Congress. In French.

• Le Senat. This is the homepage of the French Senate. In French.

  French Political Parties

• Le Parti Socialiste. The website of the French Socialist party, who are currently in power. Unfortunately this website has not been updated in more than a year, and for the time being (Jan 1998) has only static information. Let's hope they improve it. In French.

• RPR. An important political party in France, and the party of President Jacques Chirac. In French.

• UDF. The webpage on one of France's main center political parties In French.

• Les Communistes. Homepage for the French Communist Party. In French.

• Les Verts. Homepage for one of the ecological parties of France. In French.

• Front National. Homepage for the radical right of French politics. In French.

  Other French Sites

• Télé 7 Jours. If you would like to know more about TV in France, the scedules, the stories behind the actors and programs, then check this site out. In French.

• Nomade. A nice French search engine similar to Yahoo. In French.

• Tennessee Bob's French Links. Of gargantuan proportions. Tennessee Bob has done an excellent job of creating the Mother of all French Links. In English.

• Asterix, the official site. Information on the famous French cartoon character, adored by young and old alike. In French or English.

• Asterix, another site of a French fan. Useful background information about the comic book. Well done. In French only.

• Look at the current weather forecast for France. This has a nice weather map, and allows you to look at the weather by region and by city. In French.

• Look at the current weather satelite picture for France and Europe. In French.

• Chateaux in the Loire Valley. Pictures of 15 of the famous chateaux of the Loire Valley in France. My wife's parents, Michel and Nadine Costes live just behind the Chateau of Chinon. In French.

• The Cannes Film Festival. In French, English, German, and Spanish.

• The TGV. The French bullet train. This is an excellent site with reams of information about the world's fastest train. In French and English.

• The United Nations. Come take a tour of the United Nations HomePage in French. In French, English, and Spanish.

• The Olympics. Come take a look at the Olympics and the Olympic Movement. In French and English.

• Disney World. Take a look at the official Disney site in French. Excellent source of information on Disneyland in Paris, including hotel and other prices. In French and English, and several other languages.

• France's Internet Festival! Mesdames et messieurs, next Friday, March 20, and Saturday,March 21, will be "la Fête de l'Internet" — a national Internet celebration by the European country most skeptical and doubtful of this "new form of American colonialism," as one of its ministers said last year. (New York Times, March 17, 1998) In French.

• La Bourse de Paris. The Paris Stock Exchange is now, finally, on the net. In this site you can check the latest activity on your favorite French stocks. You say you do not have any? Well, just check out the high, low, and close or EuroDisney for the fun of it. The last time I checked it was just $1.50 a share! In French and English.
