I'm Calling Molly

"These are busy, imaginative kids; Christopher, who is black, describes a number of Molly's creative stories (especially about dragons, which Christopher--equally inventive--imagines as flaming red, like Molly's hair." Trivas's illustrations "neatly capture the story's humor and the children's joy in their imaginative play and the subtle range of their feelings." Kirkus

Jane says, "I wrote a number of stories, when my children were little, inspired by their lives, which seemed more real than anything else around me, at the time. Some of those stories were published in magazines or educational anthologies, but I'M CALLING MOLLY was the only one (so far, anyway) to make it as a book."

The editor who bought I'M CALLING MOLLY liked Jane's writing from the first and wrote, "Someday I hope you'll do something just right for Albert Whitman." It took four years before Jane wrote that story they decided was "just right"! Unfortunately, these days, a children's book doesn't necessarily stay in print all that long, and this one is now out of print, available only through the author, who felt lucky to have a chance to buy copies of her own book.
