Apparently, Nora and Christine had been the best of friends. Not only had they been friends, but the two of them had once been close to marriage. However, Nora and Christine had taken different roads. Nora had married her love, Torvald (Anthony Hopkins). But Christine, on the other hand, had left her love, Krogstad (Denholm Elliot). She had wed someone else that was financially capable of helping her family financially. Christine returns after the death of her husband, but she returns empty-handed. She had been forced to go back to work. She has come to Nora with hopes of finding a job.

        Since Nora and Christine had been last acquainted, Nora had married and was with children. Nora has family obligations that Christine does not have. Nora also had a financial mishap that Christine was not exposed to. Work to Nora was something that she had to do. Neither Nora nor Christine had seemed to mind working. However, Christine has been somewhat lonely. Therefore, Christine has felt as if she has no real target in front of her. She has felt as if she had no one there for her.

        The tables between Christine and Nora change by the end of the play. Christine is falling in love, while Nora is fallen out of love. Christine is ready to begin a marriage, while Nora is ready to end her marriage. Christine has changed her focus. She is now focusing on a family. On the other hand, Nora is ready to leave her family and rediscover what she is looking for in life.

        While Nora and Christine had walked down the same path earlier in life, the two of them have complete different goals by the time they meet up in the play. One is looking for love, while the other one is losing her love. By the end of the play, Nora and Christine are at two completely different points in life. Too many times, this is how life goes. Best friends walk down two different roads. But when it is all said and done, their friendship is not changed.
