Audrey Hepburn was phenomenal as Eliza Doolittle in the 1964 film My Fair Lady, directed by George Cukor and based on Alan J. Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 1956 musical. Ms. Hepburn brought so much life and elegance to the role that I could not help becoming enthralled with her character. From the way she was defiant in the first few scenes at the house, to the way she danced with the prince at the ball, she was truly the star of the show.

     Ms. Hepburn made Eliza Doolitle come to life. She gave Eliza character that I did not pick up on while reading the 1913 play, by George Bernard Shaw. She is an extraordinary actress. She made me feel that I was experiencing her ups and downs with her. It is every girl's fantasy to be the "lady" of the ball; and that is exactly the way Ms. Hepburn portrayed Eliza, as a lady. She was a lady in every meaning of the word. Her dress, her manners, her dancing, all encompassed every aspect that a lady should be.

     Ms. Hepburn was a very beautiful lady and well cast for the part. She was able to show that, despite her beauty as a person, she could play the poor, pitiful, dirty woman as she did at the very beginning of the film. This just depicts the scope and range of her talent as an actress. She played many different roles in her time; and, in my opinion, she played them all excellently. She had a gift as an actress, and her public certainly loved her. I think this is due to the fact that even though she was a glamorous movie star, she was still very down to earth, believable, and likeable. Audrey Hepburn was a remarkable actress and woman. Her films and grace will continue to illustrate this for years to come.
