The Christmas Party

It is a cold, snowy night. On the outside of my house, the lights are up, the snow partly covering them. On the inside, the Christmas tree is set up in the corner of my living room. The dining room table has a nice handmade Christmas décor tablecloth on it. Christmas music is quietly playing in the background. I am preparing and putting out food from the kitchen onto the dining room table. Some of the guests have arrived, but not all of them that I am expecting.

Right as I get ready to head back into the dining room with a bowl of chips and dip in my hand, the doorbell rings. I go into the living room, set down the food, and rush across the room to answer the door. I open the door, and who would it be but Nora (Claire Bloom). The mouths of my guests and my friends from school who had already arrived dropped from shock just as mine did. I was not expecting this guest to show up, but I was not going to kick her out. I told her to come in and took her jacket. I told her what a big fan I am of Patrick Garland's 1973 film version of Henrik Ibsen's 1879 play, A Doll's House. She came in and sat down with my other guests just as if she had been invited. We all started chatting. When the doorbell rang again, I went to answer it. It was Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) from the 1964 film My Fair Lady, directed by George Cukor and based on George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play, Pygmalion. I invited her in to join my other guests. We stood at the door after I took her coat and chatted about what a wonderful job that she did in the film. I told her that I loved her musical, My Fair Lady. She came in and joined the other guests who had arrived.

When everyone was finally there, we started eating. We ate and drank in the living room. We started talking with Nora about A Doll's House. After we discussed this, we talked with Eliza about her role in My Fair Lady and how she ever put up with Mr. Higgins' criticism. After the discussions ended, we sang Christmas carols. The time flew by, and I started letting guests out, showing them to the door. After the last guest left, I had to clean up. After the house was semi-clean and the dishes were put away, I headed to bed. It had been an interesting Christmas party.
