When you think of undercover work, you do not really think of it as a woman’s job. Well maybe today it could be a woman’s job, but several years ago the only job a woman had was to stay at home and take care of her family. In the 1946 movie Notorious, by Alfred Hitchcock, Alicia Huberman (Ingrid Bergman) took the job as an undercover agent to help catch a criminal that had been friends with her late Nazi father. She took huge responsibility in accepting this job and pulled through. Alicia had to pretend to fall in love with Alex Sebastian (Claude Rains) in order to get him to open up to her.
I thought the movie was overall good, but there are parts of the movie that I thought was slow. For example, I thought that the beginning of the movie was a bit slow; but then towards the middle during the climax it started to pick up; and I got more into it. It started to get better about when Alicia married Alex, and he threw a party to make their marriage public. I also thought that the love affair between Alicia and Mr. Devlin (Cary Grant) was somewhat confusing. It made me a little mad because he told her that he loved her, but he would not take up for her when she needed help until the end, when he saved her life under dangerous circumstances.
I did however think that the actors were great in playing their parts. I thought they took the personality of their respective characters very well. I really like to watch Cary Grant, not only in this movie but in other movies too. Cary Grant is not only fun to watch and a great actor, but he is also very attractive.
Overall, I really like the storyline of the movie, with the undercover woman. I thought it could have been a little more exciting, but I still liked it.
