Background by  Destiny's Lady

My Ani-Yunwiya (Cherokee) Journey

Our story, told to me by family members as I grew up, was of an Irish member of the Lewis and Clark expedition who, while escorting the Cherokee tribe to Oklahoma, fell in love with a Cherokee Indian princess and wed her... to have a family that ultimately led to me. My maternal great-grandmother was full-blood Cherokee, or so I have heard it told, as I do not remember her. But her spirit lives in me, wild and free, calling to me fiercely to honor her.

I learned, somewhat to my disappointment, that there were no "Cherokee Princesses", but the women were very important members of the tribe.

And so my journey begins

[Pat's Little Corner of the World] Take your picnic basket along here! So many beautiful and informative places to go. A large section devoted to Native Americans, and great links to New Zealand - Pat's homeland.

[John's Site for Geology,Celtic,Cherokee,Native American,Genealogy,Images] A virtual treasure trove for anyone seeking their Native heritage and Ancestors! John even has a link to Beginning Cherokee language! Wa-Do, John!

[Alihelisdi's Home Page] Another "sister" found through her kind letter to let me know there were no Cherokee Princesses, I was totally enchanted with her beautiful backgrounds, animations, and pictures! Star Flame is a Southern Cloth Dancer for her tribe.

[The Cherokee "GhostWalker"] A fellow Cherokee with wonderful pages to wander! I love GhostWalker's beautiful background and sayings.

[Native Web] says this to describe their site: "A collective project of many people. Our vision embraces ancient teachings and modern technology. Our purpose: to provide a cyber-community for Earth's indigenous peoples."

[Odin's Castle_of_Dreams_and_Legends] Has the most comprehensive list of Native American tribes I have found anywhere in my search of the WWW to date! The pages are lovely and the history of the various tribes from the beginning to the present was fascinating ! There is also a section devoted to Canadian tribes as well.
But the page isn't only about Native Americans... if you are a history buff, you will find a plethora of information here to keep you enthralled for hours ! Happy surfing!

[Native American Herbal Remedies] Incredible healing uses of plants.

The wolf picture on [The Wolf's Den] grabbed my attention, and imagine my surprise to find a Native American Resources page there! Lots of great links to different tribes, Native American Literature, Culture, and lots more !

Honoring the Animal Spirits is just one place to see at [Powersource_Art_&_Education_Center] There is a whole art gallery of Native American pictures along with links to books, Powwow Trails and much more!

[Wolf Spirit]

If you have spare time, perhaps you would like to read some [Old_Indian_Legends]

[Trail of Tears Outdoor Drama]
"an evening of intense drama, pageantry, and dance, wherein unfolds the bittersweet story of the Cherokee, torn from his ancestral home in the Eastern highlands and forced to begin life anew in the strange and foreboding wilderness that would one day become a state - Oklahoma."

While it isn't really a Cherokee thing, I was struck by the name of one of the "heirloom varieties" mentioned at [The_Abundant_Life_Seed_Foundation]. The "Cherokee Trail of Tears bean, tucked into the clothing and hair and belt of the Cherokee Indians as they were marched and forced onto the reservation." They seem to be a worthy foundation for anyone concerned with continuing the agriculture tradition, and helping to feed those who wish to grow their own food and care for Mother Earth.

If you are seeking a place to buy books on Native American philosophies, and such wonderful things as Medicine Cards, and Sacred Path Cards, you don't want to miss [Paper Ships] And they are VERY reasonably priced!
