Wilkeson Elementary is located on a six-acre site on Railroad Avenue, just off State Highway 165 in Wilkeson.
The main building was constructed in 1912 with locally-quarried sandstone walls. The school is listed on the State Roster of Historical Buildings and the National Historic Registry.
A major project in 1980 modernized the three-story main building and all of its systems, also adding a one-story administration wing as well as a fire sprinkler system. The 22,000 square foot building now hods 13 classrooms plus library and staff areas.
A 6,000 square foot detached multi-purpose room is located adjacent to the main building. Added in 1991 were two 1,800 square foot modular double classroom buildings, each complete with restroom facilities.
In 1992, central air conditioning was installed in the main building; and in 1994, a detached, modular counseling center was added. Visitor and staff parking is adequate, and school bus loading and unloading is removed from traffic.
