I'm going to take this opportunity to say I've had a web log since the first entry on this page, in August of 1996. Take that neo-bloggers! Basically, since 2002 I finished school, got a new job, and travelled around the world. In other words, what I'm doing right now is much more interesting than what you are doing, which is just sitting in front of a computer reading about someone else's life. How boring is that?!?

I'm working full-time for the school I'm attending part-time. Maybe in August I'll be working part-time for the school I'm attending full-time. Who knows. Right now I'm waiting for them to tell me whether my application was accepted or not. If it wasn't, I'll be working full-time and not going to school at all. If it was, then full-time school and part-time work it is. Very little else has happened since the last update to this web page, except for some cans of really good brunswick stew being eaten, and, of course, plenty of Pop-Tarts. I don't know what the deal with that is, I've just been on a Pop-Tart binge recently, after not eating them for years.

Well it's been forever since I updated this. I don't know what to type about though, nothing too exciting has happened in the last two years. That, of course, can be a good thing. I goofed off with a friend of mine yesterday, we ate and shopped for CDs and furniture, and that was about it. In fact that pretty much describes the entire last two years of my life.

The latest thing that I've been doing is ignoring updating my home page.

Why is it that I only update this thing when I'm busy? I've been in training for two weeks so far, and let me just say that I love supercomputers!

Work has really been busy recently. I copied over all of these geocities pages to the SGI I have at my place, so I expect to update these pages more often now. I just turned on the air conditioning at my place for the first time, 85 degrees indoors was a little too much to deal with. I'm feeling much better now!

It's been busy at work, lots of new computers to install. I've been playing with benchmarks, trying to find the right compiler options for the old LINPACK 100x100 benchmark on an SGI O2 R5000SC 180MHz. Sad, I know. Aside from that, I've been working on the supercomputers page, and eating my fair share of Triscuits.

I decided to come into work today to take care of a few computer things, and by the time I leave here tonight I hope that this program that keeps crashing on my machine will stop doing that... Also, I've had the opportunity to take plenty of pictures with my Leica during the end of December and the beginning of January, and they turned out great. On the job front, it's the same as always. On the school front, I'm taking exams and running gobs of monte carlo programs all over the place on every computer I can get my hands on. In other words, everything is the same as it was in November, my last report on this page, except for the fact that I moved. I forgot to mention that in my November update, I suppose I started to move in October and for that month I paid rent on two apartment. I like my new place, it's newer and cleaner and safer and MUCH closer to work--now I just need chairs and a sofa or a futon!

I just came back from a very hectic week in DC, working up there for the rainy week that it was. I received my Leica and have taken a few rolls of Kodak E100SW with it already. A lot of things have been going on, there's just too much to do. I slept 13 hours last Friday night and 13 hours the Friday night before, waking up at about noon on both Saturdays, and I'm still tired that day and the next day. Right now I'm sitting at work and it's 10:29 on a Sunday night...why I am here? It's just crazy lately.

Things have been quite hectic since I started working for SGI. I didn't even realize that it had been this long--5 months--since I last updated my home page. Time flies when you're making money. I finally purchased a camera, a Leica Z2X, but it hasn't arrived from Germany yet.

I've been working for just over three months now and everything is going well. I'm tired from all this running around that I have to do, but it keeps life interesting. I still haven't bought a camera! I know, it's getting nuts, but I can't decide whether to go medium format or not.

Well, today was my first day on the job and everything went pretty much ok, the exception being when Netscape core dumped on me. We went to UVa and did a little dust-busting. Tomorrow I'll attempt to learn the voice-mail system. Be afraid, be very afraid. Also, I just returned from helping my parents move, so I took a round-trip flight with three cities involved instead of the usual two! Life, get a load.

I've accepted a job at Silicon Graphics. The fate of the Internet and all things computer now depend solely upon my technological skills. I'd move to Bora Bora if I were you.

Another month has gone by. School is overloading me, and I'm job-hunting for reasons I'm still not quite sure of. If I only didn't have to grow up! I'm about to meet two friends of mine to go waste some time having lunch and after that I suppose that I'll have to do some work. I'm thinking Mamiya 645 for a camera right now, but before I can scrounge up $2500 for it I'm going to buy a circular polarizer for my Pentax. Actually, that's the real reason I'm heading out to lunch, the camera shop is right near where we're going! I also just finished taking a test. I think I did ok, but don't quote me on that.

Wow, it's been almost a month since my last update. I've been sick--strep throat or something of the sort--and I had to take penicillin for a week. I slept for about three days straight. I still haven't bought a camera. Things are kind of crazy right now, and time is really flying by. I am so far behind in everything.

My CD player, an old Sony one-disc, finally almost totally died, so I went to Circuit City and bought a new Sony five-disc, model CDP-CE505. It's very nice, and I can even use my old remote control with it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that there's no way to get it to stop at the end of a song aside from waiting until the end of the song and pressing stop. With my old CD player you could press "continue" and the player would stop at the end of the song currently playing--with the new player it stops after the end of the disc currently playing. The price was mis-labeled, so I received it at a $50 discount because of that, which I immediately blew on the three-year extended warranty for $49.99. Trust me, it's worth it.

I've pretty much decided to buy a Nikon N90s with the Nikkor 35-70mm f2.8 lens and SB-26 flash, and a pair of Tiffen multi-coated filters.

I would type more, but you don't care!

Recently, my Pentax ME camera has been dying. It has survived 15 years, and I think that's plenty long enough! It works most of the time, but every now and then it goes on the fritz and almost a whole roll of film is blank. After looking through some information and reading LOTS of things on the web, I've pretty much decided to buy a Nikon N90s camera. Don't take this to imply that I don't like Pentax, it's just that the only camera of theirs that I'm interested in, the PZ-1p, doesn't have a wide auto-focus area, and as such tends to "hunt." Also, their good lenses are WAY too expensive, and I'd have to go third-party. With Nikon, I can stick with Nikon (Nikkor) lenses and get better image quality than with third-party lenses. Otherwise, the PZ-1p camera walks all over the N90s as far as features go.

In other current events, I've been doing absolutely nothing other than my dissertation and my home page.
