WE CAME , WE SAW,
WE DUG!
Our students participated in an archaeological dig simulation, based on a unit from Interact.
We created imaginary cultures based on several cultural universals, such as shelter, ethics, government, language, and leisure pursuits.
Next, we created artifacts which symbolized those universals and buried them in pits.
Another team then unearthed our artifacts and analyzed our culture by reconstructing and examining the artifacts and the symbols they found on our mural.
The culminating experience was a face-off, in which we presented our findings to our buddy team.
We got awfully dirty, which was half the fun, and learned a lot about cultural systems, problem-solving, teamwork, and the job of an archaeologist.
Each team developed a web page highlighting its culture. Please explore one of our amazing cultures . (Due to limited space, we are only featuring one culture. Our apologies to last year's students, who did an outstanding job on their web pages for their various cultures.)
