A closer look

Enrollment

  • Kindergarten through Fifth grade
  • Opened in the Fall of 1998
  • Kindergarten = five half day classes with three teachers
  • First = four classes
  • Second = five classes
  • Third = four classes
  • Fourth = four classes
  • Fifth=four classes

Location
North on Pima past Frank Lloyd Wright, turn right on Bell Road, pass
the Phoenix Coyote Hockey Rink, turn South (right) on Thompson Peak
Parkway until you reach the Stop Sign. You will see the school directly
in front of you, but you must turn left to reach the parking lot.
 
The school may also be reached by turning north off Frank Lloyd Wright at Thompson Peak Parkway. Go across the bridge to McDowell Mountain Ranch Road and turn right.
 
What's special about us?
 
  • School Colors: Blue and Silver
  • Mascot: Mountain Lion 
  • We share our school site with Desert Canyon Middle School. 
  • We share the same Principal and office staff. 
  • Our Arabian library is part of the Scottsdale Public Library.
  • We have City of Scottsdale offices located in our Administration building.

Mission

 

Desert Canyon School provides a safe, caring developmentally appropriate
environment that enhances dignity and honors diversity while challenging all
students to meet their intellectual and creative potential.
 
All students are offered the highest academic challenge that is meaningful
and relevant.
 

Beliefs

Our School Community will:
  • Have high academic expectations which are supported by a basic foundation of skills
  • Anticipate the future needs of the child in a changing world.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in school decision making
  • Support and maintain a safe environment
