Job Description

Cartoonists draw simple cartoons to entertain, amuse and teach people. There are many types of cartoons. Cartoonists can draw for comics, greeting cards, animated movies, book illustrations, and panel cartoons.

Education and Training

Anyone interested in being a cartoonist, wouldn't have worry about a huge college education. Anyone who is interested in becoming a cartoonist, they could start off by volunteering for the school newspaper. In order to become a cartoonist it is necessary to be creative with a little or a lot of artistic talent. It is also needed to be able to think up ideas that would appeal to public readers. Most of all, cartoonists need to be able to take advise from the public and your boss.

Salary

Freelance cartoonists are cartoonists that can draw any type of cartoon for anyone. They make $50.00 to $1000.00 per drawing. For longer jobs, an average Freelance cartoonist would get $200.00 to $15,000.00 per week.Freelance cartoonists are really hard to come by because there aren't many cartoonists that can draw any type of cartoon.

Comic strip cartoonists, are paid per comic strip. The amount of money they would get depends on how many newspapers the comic strip is in. Most Comic Strip cartoonists can make $100,000.00 per year and up.

Hours

The hours of being a cartoonist are pretty much up to the cartoonist. In a way it is a full time job because you are constantly thinking up catchy phrases for the cartoon. On the other hand it is a part time job because you are working only at times you can think up catchy phrases for the cartoon.

The job of a cartoonist is expected to grow through the year 2000. The world is looking for more freelance cartoonists because they are very rare.

Working Conditions

A cartoonist can work anywhere. Unless the boss says differently. They would usually work inside in big cities but it matters where the cartoonist lives.

Story Of My Search

When I started out with my research I had a hard time finding research information. Then it all started flowing in. I looked in all the books about cartooning and found information on the net. So researching about being a cartoonist became fun and easy.

My Opinion Of Cartooning

In my opinion, cartooning is a great career. For people who like to draw and create cartoons for fun, this career would be great. In the career of cartooning, a cartoonist has real freedom.
