Alabama A&M University Writing Project
Collaborating with educators in North Alabama
to improve the teaching of writing.

for teachers
kindergarten through college in all subjects.

PHILOSOPHY

The AAMU Writing Project believes that there are no set formulas for the teaching of writing and encourages diverse approaches. It also promotes the underlying philosophy that:
  1. Programs designed to improve the teaching of writing must involve teachers at all teaching levels and across the disciplines.
  2. Meaningful change happens over time and can best be accomplished by classroom teachers.
  3. Teachers of writing must write.
  4. Student writing can be improved by improving the teaching of writing, and the best teacher of teachers is another teacher.

THE PROJECT OFFERS:

Summer Institute

An affiliate of the National Writing Project, the AAMU Writing Project offers continuous programs to improve the professional power of teachers.

The Summer Institute is an intensive 5-week program that brings together successful teachers (K-college, across disciplines) to be trained to teach other teachers to teach writing through inservice programs. Participants will write, share their writing, and develop new strategies in writing and the teaching of writing.
