Serves over 5000 Alabama teachers annually in a variety of year-round professional development programs.
Offers intensive four- and five-week institutes each summer for up to 100 Alabama classroom teachers selected on a competitive basis.
Focuses on literacy and literacy skills, writing and the composing process, at all grade levels, K-college.
Features powerfully motivating, life-transforming experiences designed to inspire, reshape, and transform students, teachers, the school curriculum.
Hosts conferences that bring nationally recognized scholars in literacy and writing to Alabama each year.
Provides numerous special programs for children, including summer writing camps, writing contests and competitions, Young Authors conferences, publication of student work.
Receives federal matching funds through the National Writing Project, a outstanding educational program receiving strong bi-partisan support from both houses of Congress.
Exceeds national averages in terms of cost effectiveness, number of teachers served, and quality of programs offered.
