Our meetings are well-planned and last for around 60 minutes. We met every Tuesday at 12:00 noon in the conference room of the Elks Lodge at 715 Franklin Street in downtown Huntsville. Members and guests can order order from the Lodge menu which includes soup, sandwiches, cold-plate assortments, and hot lunches, which range in price from two to eight dollars.
A typical meeting includes a table topics session, two prepared speeches, and evaluations. Each speech is evaluated by another member, whose goal is constructive praise and criticism. The tone is positive, and you should never be embarrassed. The philosophy is "people helping people" and results in your learning to speak before a crowd, gaining confidence at every meeting. You will also enhance your listening skills and learn to "think on your feet".
If you are required to make formal presentations as part of your job, or if you just want to be a better communicator, Toastmasters is for you.
After a reasonable one-time sign-up fee, the cost of National and Club dues are $24 every six months. Attend 48 meetings a year and your cost is one dollar per meeting! Is Toastmasters the best deal in town-or what?
