The French editor Gallimard started the publishing of a collection of hard-boiled mysteries in 1945 which it is still existing today.
Early titles were most from the American domain, translated into French.
The Série Noire, after celebrating its 50th anniversary in 1995, will see its 2500th book published in 1998 !!!
A record of non interrupted duration for publishing genre literature in France, and probably a record also if compared to foreign editions.
This collection is a cult for at least three generations of French readers, and became a myth for real amateurs...
